MOLA is proud to
offer Adult Adventure Programs again for Summer 2006, providing a variety of
options in the outdoors. You can
register. to join us for the day, or for the week,
knowing that you will experience the best that the area has to offer. You
can expect to learn outdoor skills, interact as part of a team, and
challenge yourself, all while meeting great new folks, improving fitness,
and taking some time to just relax. All of our activities accommodate
differing ability levels, and we make it enjoyable for everyone. Our
specialty is multi-sport adventures, and here's what we can do:
Summer Camp for Adults
Our main program is a week-long summer camp for adults that runs Monday
through Friday, 9am-5pm daily, with an optional campout on Thursday night.
We meet each morning (except Friday) at the central location of Kiwanis
Park, then grab our gear, board our van, and head out for the day's
adventure. Fridays we depart directly from our campsite and return to
Kiwanis by 5:00pm. If you don't care to campout, we'll give you directions
where to find us Friday morning.
.
Here is a typical weekly schedule:
.
Monday - Hiking to Skookum Butte Lookout in the Bitterroot Mountains.
Tuesday - Rock climbing at The Heap near Lolo Pass.
Wednesday - Rafting the whitewater of Thibodeau Falls
& Blackfoot
River.
Thursday - Mountain biking on Sunset Hill Road; Canoeing and campout at
Clearwater Junction.
Friday - Backcountry hiking expedition to Lake Dinah in the Mission
Mountains.
.
We travel in all directions from Missoula with permits from Lolo National
Forest, BLM, and Montana FWP.
.
Day Trips
.
Though we hope you'll join us for the week, you can also join us for our
scheduled outing on any given day. Or, we can come up with a plan to do
exactly what you want to do. We are masters at spur-of-the-moment planning,
and we know all the best places to go!
.
Got Kids?
.
Parents with kids can take advantage of a unique option available only with
MOLA: while you're out doing your thing with other grown-ups, your kids can
be doing their own thing in one of our kids' groups! At the end of the day,
you can share and compare your stories of adventure. Please see our page
about
kids' summer camps
for more info.
.
Special Groups, Special Interests
.
Are you looking for something special for your family or your group? What's
your specific interest? Do you want to bike every day? Climb? Go
backpacking? Want to follow the Lewis & Clark Trail? Study fire ecology? Go
bird watching? Want to throw in some fishing? Visit area museums and
exhibits? Talk western politics? You name it, we'll do it!
.
More than just recreation....
.
Out on our adventures, we'll be covering much of the same ground that was
traveled by the Lewis & Clark expedition some 200 years ago. Our
knowledgeable staff will share notes of interest, and we'll also tell you
about native flora and fauna, ecology, history, and land-use policy (if you
really want to know....)
.
Nightlife in Missoula
.
Another great aspect of our schedule is that you get to spend your evenings
in Missoula. This vibrant community in the heart of the Northern Rockies is
regularly featured in lists of great places to live. Why? Well, you'll have
to find out for yourself, but it has to do with places to eat, coffee
houses, pubs, shops, live music, theaters, riverfront trails, locally made
ice cream, and interesting people. Of course we'll tell you all the best
places to go and provide ideas on where to stay! Tuesday evening and
Saturday morning, you can check out our fabulous farmers' market with local
organic produce and unique handcrafts.
.
Our Guides
.
We do all of our own guiding, and MOLA provides staff with excellent
qualifications and experience! Director Porter Hammitt serves as lead
instructor and has over 10 years of experience in the field, an M.S. in
Outdoor Recreation, doctorate-level studies in education and ecology, and
numerous training & safety certifications. At MOLA, we put a premium on
safety and training, and we're proud to say we've never had a serious
incident in all these years with all that we do. We also carry full
insurance for our program and our vans. We are currently putting together
our staff for summer 2005, picking some of the best people that the area has
to offer. Please see our
staff page for more info.
